Bunnahabhain 12, 18 and Toiteach
Posted in Spirits, Summerville AceDiscover what it means to have an unchill-filtered Scotch Whiskey. Bunnahabhain says Tales and records have it that our malt has started life the same way since 1881, with good malted barley, pure Margadale spring water, a little yeast and a sprinkling of adventure.
Are you ready to tell your own tale? We have 3 of their Scotch Whiskeys to offer. 12-Year-Old ($59.99), 18-Year-Old ($120.99) and Toiteach ($69.99).
Here’s what their website has to say about these amazing Scotch Whiskeys.

The Toiteach comes in a distinctive white box
Toiteach
Toiteach (pronounced Toch Chach), answers the question; “What if a touch of smoke from our peated malted barley was introduced in the distillation process?”
Distinct from that of other Bunnahabhain single malts famous for their welcoming taste, Toiteach (meaning smoky in Scots Gaelic), is a delicious, peaty whisky.
This bottling offers the connoisseur an opportunity to try something truly unique. The liquid has been masterfully distilled and quietly matured at the distillery, never for a moment leaving Islay during this process.
Tasting Notes
The nose tells the tale of a charming subtle peatiness with prickling strength emanating from the dram.
The taste has immediate warming flavours drifting towards a slightly sweet sherry influence with delicate peppery notes.
The finish has a good robust length with an extremely pleasant aftertaste – this is a beautifully peated Bunnahabhain single malt for the discerning palate.
12 Year Old

12-Year-Old
When we changed to unchill-filtered malts to allow their full character to come out, we wanted packaging that told this story. With this in mind a new smoked-oak glass that hints at our flavour has replaced the traditional emerald green of the 12 year old bottle. Additionally dual labeling now tells the tale of our overall sense of specialty, subtlety, confidence and luxury. A revised neck label has also been developed to display the product’s age. And because a good story deserves a good presentation, the bottle now sits in a quality gift carton containing a booklet with tales of the Bunnahabhain brand.
Tasting Notes
This whisky is the stuff tales are made of and inside the new bottle, the whisky speaks for itself. The nose offering a fresh and aromatic experience with a subtle whiff of smoke floating through the air. The taste starts with a light fruit and nut appeal that leads to a spectacular malty sweetness, finishing into a beautifully rich full-bodied, lingering experience.
Natural colour and unchill-filtered at 46.3%

18-Year-Old
18 Year Old
Our 18-year-old-Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky is now enjoying its full potential as the re-introduced unchill-filtered spirit: a story that has excited connoisseurs across the globe.
With the move to unchill-filtered malt and a higher strength of 46.3%, this remarkable 18 year old has more than earned some new packaging.
Hinting at the tales the liquid within has to tell, the label highlights the move to a natural colour and an unchill-filtered process. Similarly, the bottle is now presented in a quality gift carton containing a welcoming booklet with information on the brand.
Tasting Notes
A nose and a taste of this tells more than a book ever could. The beautiful golden spirit’s aroma releasing honeyed nuts and a slightly sea-induced salty tang. Rich toffee and leathery oak notes can be sensed upon further reading, while the palate tells of mellow sherried nuts and shavings of the finest natural oak wood.
Its story ends very happily, with dry notes interspersed with mixed spices fading magnificently into a light salt and sherry finale.
